Vigile role playing game illustrations

Last week I had the chance to participate in the 2nd and final edition of a very special weekend. For a second time, Thomas Pintal asked me to do live illustrations for his role playing game that he has been animating in his own sci-fi universe for the last 25 years! 24h of gaming during one weekend in a cottage. My mission was to illustrate the scenes that were coming out of his imagination and the ones of his 5 players.

Here are the results or the explorations of those 2 weekends. All the pictures you are seeing were made live during the game. Some are quick 5 minutes sketches to capture the energy of a scene, others are 3D concepts, also modeled live, that represent the landscape of the world. I was discovering, along with the players, the scenes they were living and I was trying to capture their essence.

It was an extremely stimulating experience on the creative side. The process, threading closer to improvisation than design, forced me to enter a state akin to automatic drawing. The thinking process was happening directly on the paper or in the 3D software, thus making the results have a very spontaneous look. Other than the layout, I decided to share the pictures as they were created during the games and without much retouching after the fact.

Thanks Thomas Pintal!

And also a very special thanks to Thibault Libert that created the music and soundscape of the games. It was as much an inspiration than the rest.
