Mugshots

Oil painting mugshots photographed in better quality than the previous versions. All pieces are oils on panels of either 6x6 or 12x12.

Mugshots are fascinating, so much life is shown in yet such a dehumanizing way. It is a really interesting experiment to paint them.

Some of those mugshots were taken either by the New South Wales. Police Dept. in the 1920s as a series of special photographs of inmates at the time. Others were taken by the police department of the Newcastle upon Tyne area also in the 1920s and can be found in the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums' collection.
